  After reading through the module and watching the videos, I believe that the reason schools are still segregated in 2022 is simply due to a lack of knowledge from society. Many people, myself included (until now), are unaware of the unconstitutional policies enacted by the government that set African Americans up for failure. An example of one of these policies would be the Federal Housing Administration which subsudized homes on the condition that they would only be sold to white families. Instances like these are harming society and our country as a whole. People need to learn about these things going on around us in order to make a change. If people are unaware of these issues then nothing can be put in place to make a positive difference. One thing we can do as American citizens to make a change regarding this issue would be to educate others on the problems and spread awareness wherever we can so that way more people can be informed about the problem.   Gender has become a hot topic of discussion in today’s society. In the past, this really was not seen as a big topic however as of recently and the changing of times it’s become more relevant. There are many people who disagree with the LGBTQ rights movement and theres also a ton of people who support it and are allies. Either way, gender is important and it needs to be talked about in order to make a change in our education system.  Currently in Texas, the legislature is pushing for a law that will damage our trans youth. Greg Abbot has ordered for states to investigate the parents who are allowing their children gender-affirming surgeries for child abuse. This can really harm our youth because it can make them feel not wanted and not safe. I believe that this affects the teaching profession 100% because as teachers they are going to want us to report these things to parents when in reality we shouldn’t have to.   When it comes to understanding what the “full picture” is in the education system, we first must define what the full picture is. To me, the full picture is understanding all sides of history, and culture from a nonbias perspective. As teachers, we need to make sure that their education system is not failing them and that our students can be able to understand the full picture.  This week after reading the module I have come to the understanding that we currently don’t have the full picture of our education system, however, this does not mean that we cannot change this.  We can help our students to understand the full picture in history classes by teaching them all sides of history and not just telling it from one perspective. A lot of public schools in the past and today have a habit of teaching students history and other topics from one basic narrative that we’ve all heard a million times before.   I think talking about controversial issues in the classroom is an important thing to do and include in the classroom as a teacher. After reading this week's materials and watching the videos I have a better understanding of why we need to teach our students to participate in emotional, deep conversations. I believe we can do this by facilitating conversations between students and asking them broad open-ended questions that can lead them to have respectful conversations. I also believe we can do this by reminding our students that everyone has their own opinion and that it is completely OK to have an opinion different than their classmates, but we as teachers also need to remind the students that it is not OK to bully or put others down for having a different opinion than their own. When it comes to why I want to become a teacher, I've always known that it's what I wanted to do.  I grew up as an only child and I was constantly coming up with ways to entertain myself, one of the things I did was play "school" with my stuffed animals. Doing that made me really passionate to become a teacher and ever since then I have made it my dream to be a real teacher! Originally I wanted to teach elementary school, however recently I discovered that I have a passion for working with middle-aged children. I worked as a camp counselor over the summer and I realized that younger kids aren't a good fit for me. In high school I was a part of the teacher prep program and doing that also helped grow my passion for teaching.    I would love to teach middle school or high school. I really enjoy working with the middle grades because they are a lot easier to talk to and they are able to be more independent. The ideal subject I would teach would be physical education ...
